Hi,
I’m Rob and thank you for visiting my brand-new website (and very small business). First, a bit about me:
I am, at present, a 68-year-old disabled veteran living in the swamps of Louisiana. In 2015, I began having eye problems. After eight detached retina surgeries and less than 2 years later, I was forced to retire in December, 2017. No vision in my left eye and very little in my right eye, I was declared legally blind. I tell others that I must have won life’s lottery on really crappy retinas.
I’m still out in the public / still get around / still love to travel (often alone). Not to the point of having a seeing eye dog or tapping around with the white cane, I found myself explaining dozens of times each day I could not see very well and requesting assistance.
Out of necessity I stumbled across the image for the visually impaired.
I soon learned that unlike the symbol for the handicapped, most of the world not as familiar with the symbol for the visually impaired and now I was explaining what it meant.
Thus, I used my creative imagination and enhanced the image (patent pending) to come up with an attention getting simple explanation of my condition.
The result has been a blessing for me and made interacting with the public much easier. No matter the situation, if I’m walking too slow, bump into someone by accident, standing too close, walking the wrong direction, need help with the menu, etc., The VIP Badge a huge help.
I’ve heard it said that blindness is the invisible impairment that other’s can not see. I believe that. If there is a visually impaired person in your life, I am sure you can relate.
